Welcome

"Friends in Deed" is a group of friends from high school. We organise fund-raising events in aid of charities.

This year we are raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Kagera, Tanzania.

Our last event was a Harvest Supper held on 1st October. We raised £484, images of the event are on the Current Events page.

In previous months we held 3 Arts and Craft sessions for primary school children from the village and a Mothers Day Coffee Morning. The major fundraiser this year was a 24 hour sponsored Artsathon on 2nd July. There was music, poetry and play reading, art and craft activites going on throughout the day and night finishing with the church bellringers at 9.30am on Sunday.

One of our group took part in a sponsored swim on Alton Water. He swam the 1 mile course in under 33 minutes and raised £311.16. Well done Richard!

Our fundraising will end in December so keep a lookout for further activities. The first of these will be another of our popular Art & Craft afternoons for under 11s on 25th October, 2pm to 4pm in Dove Cottage

Two of our group (left of photo) are visiting Kagera during August with a party from of young people from the Diocese of Ipswich and St Edmundsbury. The photograph below shows the presentation of a cheque for £750 to Bishop Clive on 31st July

This money will be used to provide water tanks and a printer for the School of Nursing and library books for secondary school pupils.

In 2009 we helpeded the Kariandusi Trust that supports school children and young people in Kenya.

In 2010 we raised money for HOPS and the Helen House Hospice. We were able to donate £704.92 to both of these good causes. See our Past Events page for a picture of the presentation of the cheque to Sister Francis from Helen House.
